Attend two very important and grand "tsechus" or festivals, and if you like, participate by wearing the national dress of gho or kira. The glacial valley of Phobjikha, where no electricity is allowed, also awaits to introduce you to simplicity at its best. And as you embark on the short but beautiful Gangtey Trek, you will be met by the "real" Bhutan as you pass through several remote villages, visiting locals and experiencing the heart of Bhutan's people and nature. Itinerary in brief: Day Description Day 1 Arrive Paro International Airport, transfer to Haa After being met at the airport by your guide and driver, you will begin the 2.5 hour journey to Haa in your private vehichle. Sights along the way include Chele La Pass, and an optional hike to the Kila Goemba nunnery, the oldest nunnery in Bhutan. Afternoon sightseeing in Haa as time permits. Overnight in Haa. Day 2 Haa to Thimphu Begin the journey to Thimphu with sightseeing along the way including optional stops at Selung Goemba, Phundup Pedma Yowzing Goemba, and the majestic Dobji Dzong. Afternoon arrival to Thimphu with sightseeing as time permits including the National Textile Museum, Folk Heritage Museum, Semtokha Dzong, Changangkha Monastery, Trashichho Dzong, National Library, National Memorial Chorten, Motithang Takin Preserve, and Zangto Pelri Lhakhang. Overnight in Thimphu. Day 3 Thimphu Visit the grand and colorful Thimphu Drupchen in the morning. Afternoon is free for revisiting the festival or further cultural touring. Overnight in Thimphu. Day 4 Thimphu to Phobjikha Visit the Weekend Market, the largest in the country, before beginning the 5 hour journey to Phobjikha. Sights along the way include Dochu La Pass and the 108 Dochu La Chortens. Afternoon arrival to Phobjikha and overnight in Phobjikha. Day 5 Begin Gangtey Trek - Day 1 Phobjikha to Zasa Distance: 15km Hiking time: 6 - 7 hours Elevation gain/loss: 610m ascent / 410m descent Day 6 Gangtey Trek - Day 2 Zasa to Chorten Karpo Distance: 16km Hiking time: 5 – 7 hours Elevation gain/loss: 450m ascent / 860m descent Day 7 End Gangtey Trek - Day 3, transfer to Wangduephodrang Chorten Karpo to Tikke Zampa Your driver and vehicle will meet you at the end of the trek for the short transfer to Wangdue. Overnight in Wangdue. Distance: 12km Hiking time: 4 – 5 hours Elevation gain/loss: 120m ascent / 1340m descent Day 8 Wangdue Spend the day at the smaller yet enchanting Wangdue Tsechu with afternoon sightseeing in and around Wangdue as time allows. Overnight in Wangdue. Day 9 Wangdue to Paro Begin the 5-hour journey to Paro with a stop en route at the spectacular Punakha Dzong. Afternoon sightseeing in Paro as time allows including the Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong (home of the National Museum), Kichu Monastery, and Drugyel Dzong. Day 10 Paro Enjoy a morning hike to the magnificent Taktsang or "Tiger's Nest" Monastery with a traditional pack lunch on the way down. In the evening explore Paro town, followed by dinner and a traditional dance show in the evening. Day 11 Depart Paro As priced, this tour is for 2 people traveling together on a twin-sharing basis with payment made directly to the account of Bhutan "Your Way" Tours & Travel held and managed by the Royal Government of Bhutan Department of Tourism.
